Chapter Philanthropy

The women of our chapter feel that giving back to our own community is extremely important and work every day to do that. Sigma Kappa, Kappa Xi would not be the sisterhood that it is without the Reno/Sparks community that it is a part of, therefore we feel it is crucial to give back to the community that has helped create us.

In addition, Alzheimer's disease research has been Sigma Kappa's philanthropy since 1984 and finding a cure is a huge passion throughout our sisterhood. Our sisterhood has raised $17,000 towards Alzheimer's just this year in order to help fight the disease. SKetti Night is our favorite tradition that raises most of the proceeds we grant towards this cause. It is unlimited spaghetti, lemonade, and breadsticks served by yours truly for 10 hours straight! What could sound better than that? We also regularly volunteer at a retirement home in Reno Nevada, Arbors Memory Care.

Not only do we do a philanthropy night as fun as SKetti Night, but the women of our chapter also participate in the Walk to End Alzheimers. For this event, each woman is required to reach out to their friends and family in order to raise $50 each towards Alzheimer's research. After, we do a walk to show our support and come together as a community. It is a truly rewarding experience and helps us raise a lot of money for those with Alzheimer's.
